Mickie has been an EF athlete for one year. He impresses us with his drive and focus in his training, as well as his infectiously positive attitude. Mickie’s athletic background is in long distance running and obstacle racing, but he sought out triathlon for the challenge. Mickie’s goal is to complete a full Ironman, and he makes progress towards that goal every day. He trains in the team setting and pushes himself to complete hard workouts, and works with his coaches to good goals to get him where he wants to go.

Starting out in running, Mickie had little background in the sport but found the joy of accomplishing athletic goals rewarding. He began trail running around the JRPS with a close friend. He found that training helped with sobriety and the benefits of training extended to all areas of his life. After competing in longer and longer distances, Mickie knew that he wanted to push himself to grander goals. It was not only beneficial to him, but helped him to be a better partner, a better father, better in his business pursuits, and in all areas of life.

After competing in marathons, obstacle races, and other events, Mickie decided to train to become an Ironman. The biggest hurdle for him to overcome was the swim. After starting training with Endorphin and working with coach James, Mickie has grown his skills as a swimmer a great deal. He also has increased his speed on the bike and improved on his running, proving the benefits of cross-training.

Mickie’s 2019 season planned out consists of several 70.3 events as a test run for full distance. We’re excited for the opportunity to coach him. We’re also grateful for his attitude of encouragement, perseverance, and determination he brings to the team!
