Our athlete feature this week is Laura Cordes! Laura has been with Endorphin for 10 months! In that time, she’s worked hard and made huge strides.
Laura was already involved in running and other fitness activities, but found the sport of triathlon as a new challenge. A business partner of hers urged her to give it a try. After Laura’s husband taught her to swim, she had all she needed to get started! She was hooked immediately.
Laura found out about EF through a triathlon clinic hosted by Kim Frost. Laura saw a great opportunity to go farther in her training with EF. The coaching relationship has been great for Laura. She’s enjoyed a great rapport with her coaches. Additionally, her teammates encourage her to get out and push herself in workouts and celebrate victories in all forms.
This season didn’t go exactly as expected for Laura due to weather disrupting some of her races. This led to an awesome and unexpected outcome, though. She worked with her coaches and used the fitness they had been building for a Half Ironman and entered Richmond. It was her first marathon ever, and she hit Boston qualifying time! With a huge PR, of course, in distance and time.
The people are what make this sport special to Laura. Whether it’s coaches, teammates, family, or friends, Laura says that endurance athlete people are the best to be around. Training has helped Laura be more focused and disciplined in other areas of her life. She recommends to the beginner to “embrace the experience. Enjoy the racing. Get the help you need to stay on track.”
