Originally from Upstate New York, Joe Baron ran at the Division II level for four years (2015-2019) at Assumption College, where he helped the team develop from a last place finisher, to a top all- region contender in Cross Country and Track and Field. A captain his senior year for Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track, Coach Joe specializes in the distance events, and while the mile will always be his favorite race, his specialty resides in the 5k and 10k distances, where he was a second team all- conference in the 10,000 meters Ne-10 championships, placing 5th with a lifetime PR of 33:36, placing an Assumption Greyhound in the top 5 in the distance for the first time in over 15 years.
Joe has competed at the highest levels of New England Distance racing, competing against all divisions for four years at the New England Championships for Cross Country, and also his junior year in the 10,000 meters for Track. During his senior year, he made his third regional team for Cross Country, where the Greyhounds placed 7th respectively, the highest in program history, and also made his second, second-team finish, placing 8th in the NE-10 Indoor Championships 5,000 meter final, with a tactical 15:56. At the highschool level, Baron was a State Qualifier in Cross Country (2014) where he placed 74th at the State Meet (Class C). Colonial Council Champion in the indoor and outdoor 3200 meters in 2015, and Silver Medalist in the Section 2 3200 meter and 1600 meter race for NYS Class C, helping his high school team finish an undefeated year with their first ever sectional title.
As a coach, Joe has worked with many different ages and levels from beginner to elite. He is an excellent communicator and passionate about sharing his love for running with others.
