Our athlete of the week is Anna Mihalovich!
Anna has been coached at EF for the last eight years; she loves a challenge and has been an amazing athlete to work with!
Anna is competitive and driven, and said that when she was first trying to find a sport to focus on in early elementary school, she couldn’t find one that was challenging enough for her. When an acquaintance of her friend’s mom wanted to start a triathlon team and Anna heard about, she said that she was interested. After the first practice, she knew that she had found a sport that would meet her desires to be challenged and grow, and has stayed with it ever since.
What pushes her forward in triathlon is the thrill of being able to compete against herself every time she races. Anna finds great reward in being able to push her personal best times a little bit lower each time she sets out to compete. She also loves the cycling portion of racing, and finds that her strongest portion.
Anna’s favorite race was her first one, when she was eight years old. Her least favorite races are when it’s raining and when the biking portion is cancelled. She has raced in her age group as well as in adult length sprint races, and loves being able to race at the adult lengths.
Even early in the season, she’s already taken first overall in the women’s category at the ODU Sprint Triathlon. She’s been mixing training with the EF team with training on her high school’s crew team. Anna wants to improve her run times and compete in more triathlons this season.
Anna’s advice to new athletes is to enjoy the successes of training hard, but also to stay humble.
