Justin Free

Justin Free has been working with Coach Trey from EF Prince William since the age of 8 as Justin’s swim coach first and then as his triathlon coach since the age of 10.

Justin is very humble, an amazing student, a great teammate, and a lot of fun to be around. He is hard working and always looks for opportunities to help out with the team. He is friendly to everyone he meets. He started triathlon as a good swimmer but cycling and running were slower to develop. He took up road bike racing and cyclocross, then mountain bike racing to improve his cycling skills which has paid off big as now he is one of the strongest cyclist on the junior circuit.

Through a great deal of hard work, patience, and perseverance, Justin has not only improved, but has proven himself to be a fierce competitor. This past weekend in Clermont, Justin was patient on day 1 and actually eased up on the bike so that he wouldn’t pull a competitor up to his teammate’s wheel. On day 2, he was second out of the water, 1st into and out of T1, pulled away on the bike, and then kept calm and steady on the run despite the pack being close behind him for the entire race. In the final sprint with 2 athletes now on him, he put aside his mental barriers and went for it, taking 1st overall and posting his best performance overall to date. We are super proud of him and the progress he has made over the years!
